International School on Terahertz photonics and electronics

The terahertz (THz) region of the electromagnetic spectrum conventionally identifies radiation with frequencies in the range 100 GHz – 10 THz, or equivalently, wavelengths in the range 3 mm – 30 µm. At these frequencies, many molecules have their spectroscopic fingerprints due to rotational and vibrational transitions. Recent breakthroughs in nanotechnologies are pushing up the efficiency of compact semiconductor THz laser sources and detectors. Hence, long dreamed killer applications of THz photonics such as sensing, imaging, diagnostics, coherent spectroscopy in strategic fields like medicine, microelectronics or cultural heritage are becoming true. The school will address the hot topics in the field of THz science and applications based on nanostructures and related devices. The scientific program of the workshop will cover the state-of-the-art on the following subjects: THz electronic devices, THz quantum cascade lasers, THz detectors, THz beam manipulations and waveguides, THz 2D materials, THz metamaterials, THz imaging spectroscopy and telecom systems.
